Before its nationwide screening at the coming Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino on August 16, the A-Lister film- PAUWI NA, gets a kick-off screening at the Cinemalaya Film Festival on August 11 at exactly 9 pm. It joins the Cinemalaya Festival's Best Program line-up, together with five other worth-seeing films which joined other film festivals in the past.
Directed by Paolo Villaluna, PAUWI NA is one of the most successful films in the history of Philippine Cinema in terms of quality and recognition. That's why it's ranked among the "A-LISTERS" when it won the Golden Goblet (the Grand prize) award last year at Shanghai International Film Festival.
A film with a delicate touch and an enduring love for family, PAUWI NA was raved by international film critics abroad. Hollywood Reporter described the film as this: "A strong social critique barbed with black humor distinguishes this Philippine film... the big pay-off arrives in a deeply emotional finale".
