Present nu'ng gabing iyon sina Carlo Manalac (as Crisostomo Ibarra), KL Dizon (as Maria Clara), Francis Matheu (as Elias), Jansen Aguilar (as Padre Salvi), at siyempre, si direk Frannie Zamora na siyang direktor ng nasabing dula.

"Kaya I feel so honored na narito kayong lahat tonight sa radio show ko.

"I am so happy with all the outcome of our rehearsals, castings and promotions", huling sambit naman ni direk Frannie kay blogger Robert. "I've made the right choices- mula sa pagpili ng mga gaganap sa cast, sa schedules ng rehearsals and production team namin na very efficient, at pati na rin sa magandang suporta ng blogger na si Robert Silverio. Sabi niya, very curious na raw ang mga media people na dadalo sa media premiere namin sa September 9. I guarantee them na it's gonna be worth their time and efforts'.

Hindi mananalo si direk sa last Aliw Awards ng Best Director for a Musical para sa dulang ito kung hindi talagang de-kalibre ang kanyang paggawa. More power, direk!

May pinaghuhugutan. Totoo ka.

We can feel for Michael.

CARLO, KL & FRANCIS: SUPERB CHEMISTRY OF THREE LEAD PERFORMERS IN THE PLAY “KANSER” (a theater rehearsal impressions...)

CARLO

FRANCIS

KL

FRANNIE

In-between breaks, you would see them joking around, laughing and playing like kids. But once director Frannie Zamora called their attention for the rehearsal, they automatically turned into who they really were- professional theater performers with angst and feelings.
Suddenly, their respective ‘auras’ would shine and glow, and intense emotions could be seen on their faces. Powerful, magnetic.
In the ACT 2 of the play’s rehearsal notes, a scene wherein both Elias and Crisostomo Ibarra were talking in a boat as they both paddled the river, actors Francis G. Matheu (as Elias) and Carlo S. Mañalac (as Crisostomo Ibarra) transformed into becoming the characters they were rehearsing that afternoon of August 23 at rehearsal venue of the AFP theater compound. It was so good to look at, what a perfect blend of chemistry between two theater actors. They mixed-in well and the varying personalities they showed were very theatrical. Wonderful.
Director Ariel Francisco (Frannie Zamora) didn’t have a hard time rehearsing that scene. Only technical errors and little adjustments on blocking and timing were needed.
Another scene showed Carlo S. Mañalac again as Ibarra in a dramatic scene with KL Dizon as Maria Clara. “Hugot na hugot ang dalawa!”, a blogger said to himself. “Parang relate na relate!”
Only to realize later on, from their co-actor in the play, that both Carlo and KL had suffered from lost loves in their personal lives, painful experiences on love at that. And they both could relate in that dramatic scene wherein Ibarra was bidding goodbye to Maria Clara.
KL Dizon’s eyes were so illuminating on that scene. She could use her eyes alone just to express a certain emotion. Perfect.
We noticed, too, the good team-up and rapport of both director Frannie and his assistant director Gean Allain de Leon in motivating their actors. They didn’t spoon-fed their actors on what to do or what NOT to do. But they both only gave inner messages and ‘captivations’ that could fully enhance an actor’s performance.
In the crowd scenes’ rehearsals, Norman Penaflorinda (who’s portraying the role of Padre Damaso in this play) stood out. His movements were wide, compelling and overwhelming- very theatrical, indeed, but pleasant to look at. Amidst the little fine dances on this play with music, Norman was like a swing that could zest-up a watcher’s melodic rhythms.
New theater actor Jansen Aguilar ( Paul Jansen Ong) easily caught our attention with his good and appealing stage presence. He’s portraying the role of Padre Salvi in this longest-running play by Gantimpala Theater Foundation.
More to come soon as we had promised our self to continue writing about this play which will have its opening day on September 2 at the AFP Theater. Kindly read below Kanser’s schedule of performances:
