He was the cousin of Gen. Gregorio "Goyo" del Pilar who also fought together with the Philippine hero during one of the most turbulent episodes of Philippine History. And just like Goyo, he was young and handsome, a true Filipino. He was under the command of his cousin, and in the movie GOYO: ANG BATANG HENERAL, he was portrayed by a New York-based theater actor Carlo Cruz. He was Captain Juan del Pilar.
"Captain Juan del Pilar stood loyal to his cousin", actor Carlo Cruz said in a catching glimpse of a 3-minute tete-a-tete. "Better watch the movie on what will happen to his character there. It's now showing, but I don't want to loosen-up the suspense."
From New York City, Carlo went back home to the Philippines just to help in promoting the film GOYO: ANG BATANG HENERAL. And that's the right move on his part, because the film is destined to become a Modern Classic, and all the experiences he got while helping promote the film in Cebu City and other places and schools in the Philippines, simply added a lot of wisdom for him.
"Plus the fact that I also got to know a lot about the History of my own country", Carlo said in finality in that catching glimpse of an ambush interview. "I got to know more about the drama, the sentiments, and the heroism of many Filipinos who died years ago. And I can say by now, I am proud to be a Filipino."
Soon on swordshines10 blog site, a longer article on Carlo Cruz is going to be published. He just better not stood-up a blogger on a DATE. Haha.
More power, Carlo.
