"DAHLING NICK": WHEN THE ACTOR BECOMES THE FILM ITSELF (A REVIEW)

(SPECIAL NOTE: We are reviewing this film for its Cinematic wonder and credits, thus, we are avoiding any impressions or remarks on the film's political color and undertones. For us, the beauty of the film relies on its own "personal touch". Thank you.--- rms.*)
The life of the writer who wrote the Fiction, sometimes, was more colorful than the characters he himself created. And who would know for sure, that, it was also his own personal life, so wonderfully catalputated by the scenery, the visions, and the lingering characters in many of his books. A creator who's Larger Than Life, who's more beautiful and powerful than the men and women who became alive in many of his works.
In the film DAHLING NICK, made a few years ago and is now streaming at Cinema One Original's YouTube channel, a female director saw it all, captured it all, embraced it all. With too much personality, trademarks and style- this Avant Garde kind of a film which lasted for almost 3 hours and took you to Paradise because of its very good attack and version on the life of a National Artist- wow, indeed, you would ask: "Why was this film became so low-key, understated, almost not well-publicized or promoted when it was shown at first?"
We would answer later on: "Perhaps, because of the film's political undertones. Haha."
Anyway, we would like to thank God that the beloved Nick Joaquin's life was made into a film- somewhat semi-documentary in form, but it never destroyed the rhythm and the flow, the story and the texture, the dance and the climax- of a personal film like this one we always had longed for to watch and see.
Personal films always amazed us. It always sounded so eloquent to us. It always fascinated us. And as personal as it could get, we would like to copy some few scenes in the film wherein the "Artist" knelt in front of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We would indeed do that, too, once we see the director of this film in person and face-to-face. And she's no less than Ms. Sari Dalena.
The way she blended the docu details alongside with the words of the friends of Quijano de Manila, perfectly sewing it all together in one remarkable piece of an artistic cloth, the rave words seemed to be far from over.
Technically, the film was also good. So good as it gets. The script was perfectly written. The cinematography of Nap Jamir- fabulous.
All the actors and actresses who participated in this film (which tasted like one rare wine hidden in the wine vault for centuries) were excellent and performed their tasks dutifully and full of angst and lively energy. Especially that of the younger actors that somehow captured totally our "awe". Special mention to Derick Cabido and Kiko Matos. Also to that young actress who appeared in the May Day Eve segment of the film and the child actor who portrayed the role of the Artist's grandson.
Meanwhile, actor-singer Lance Raymundo, who portrayed Ferdinand Marcos, was efficient, convincing, accurate. And Ms. Dindi Gallardo as Imelda Marcos was natural and strong. Maria Isabel Lopez as the witch Anastasia was captivating.
The surrealism effects and vision, the bizarre scenes of a giant snake, the large crab that lingered until the end, and the overwhelming Mystical presence of Ms. Alessandra Rossi as the Lady-, oh, my, was almost like FOREVER.
****** ****** *******
They often say that the main actor who appeared in almost all the scenes of the film, was really the FILM itself. He was the living soul. He was the memory. He was the GRANDEUR of it all.
I never knew, I could ever see one Filipino actor who could really fill-in our innermost desires of passionate Cinematic "hunger & thirst". But this actor offered much more. He was so delicate in his portrayal, yet so handsome. Naughty in a few scenes, dashing in movements and sways, titillating and deep in impressions.
No other actor could greatly execute a hard character like that of the late Mr. Nick Joaquin. But he did it. More than we expected.
RAYMOND BAGATSING, is that actor.
And we would like to embrace him hard and gentle, soft and carefree. Loving and respectful-
FOREVERMORE.

a dashing young statesman- LANCE RAYMUNDO, with glamorous lady DINDI

It's your job, eh. It's your TASK to portray a character in a film- mapa-Historical man iyon o hindi.

Bale limited dates lang 'yan, so catch the film in its five days of streaming sa YT, for you to see, kung bakit marami ang napamangha kay Lance as the young Ferdinand Marcos.

Even Lance's very own mom, in person of Mrs. Nina Zaldua-Raymundo, cherished so much Lance's portrayal as the young FM. Kuhang-kuha kasi ni Lance sa pelikulang ito ang very poised manners, elegance and sophistication ng isang dashing and strong leader of a nation!

Sa mga young film makers out there, isang suggestion lang: Bagay din si Lance bilang si Ninoy Aquino, bilang si Manuel L. Quezon at maski bilang si Emilio Jacinto. Yung posture kasi niya, tipong Statesman talaga, eh.

More historical pictures in the future, please.

LANCE RAYMUNDO's FAMILY REUNITES ONCE MORE

THE RAYMUNDO FAMILY REUNITES FOR DINNER AT HOME

"Dinner celebration for the end of Mom’s 14-Day Quarantine after arriving back from a nearly 6 Month long stay in California. Mom tested negative for COVID-19 less than 24 hours after arrival but our family still decided to honour the 14-day home quarantine. Mom limited her movement only between her bedroom and the prayer room the whole time. So happy to finally have her join us in the dining room tonight! Happy week ahead everyone! Stay safe and well always!"- (LANCE RAYMUNDO'S LATEST FB POST).***
"How we missed our mom because of her long vacation", tanging nasabi na lamang ni Lance sa isang blogger-friend niya.

LANCE RAYMUNDO AT THE TIMES OF THE PANDEMIC...

Lance Raymundo, yeah, we can say by now, is among those celebrities whose attitude we greatly admired at the times of the Pandemic...

He followed strictly the lockdowns, the safety protocols, the necessary quarantines.

He showed to this blogger, that by following the proper social distancing of avoiding physical contact to other people, wearing the facial masks, PPE's and the likes, oh wow, it will really be SAFE.

Hats down to you, Papa Lance, for being a good role model for us, for being a dutiful Filpino citizen of the Republic at the times of the Pandemic.

LANCE RAYMUNDO AT THE TIMES OF THE PANDEMIC....

Lance became a "PLANTITO", as he cared for indoor plants inside his cozy condo unit.

Lance sang songs and letters at the Letters & Music radio show, as we gladly heard his new recording songs for Viva Music...

Lance digitally and virtually interacted with fellow gym mates in Zoom meetings and as they did those daily physical workouts...

Lance fixrd things inside his condo unit...

Lance rehearsed online those fight scenes in an upcoming mainstream film...

Lance further endorsed some worthwhile proucts made by the indigenous people of Kalinga-Apayao tribes, courtesy of Ms. Karen Jane Salutan, as he modelled their face masks and other products...

Lance composed new songs and lyrics, and the more he became passionate about his love for Music....

Lance modelled other more beauty products and now, it's been two years that he became the Brand Ambassador for ISkin Aesthetic beauty products...

AND MORE, MORE, MORE!!!

That's Lance Raymundo for you at the times of the Pandemic.

Sobrang ang dami niyang nagawa, ha. And TIME was all worth it.

SAGADA... THE CORDILLERAS... BENGUET PROVINCE... THE IFUGAOS... THE IGOROTS... THE KALINGA-APAYAOS.... AND OTHERS MORE.

When you suddenly remember these places and people, you would suddenly feel good and would want to escape the modern city and disposable outcomes...

When you suddenly remember the people who became a part of your life, some of those you loved, you would remember how embracing they are

How beautiful they are...

How artistic they are.

Igorot-Ifugao men you once loved

And taught you in a brief episode of your life, the hearts and souls of our unique and kind tribal people

You felt them, yeah, you did.

Their culture, their dances, their rituals, their tasks.

And now at the times of the Covid-19 health Pandemic,

their hand-woven facial masks, head bands, caps, etcetera are such a HIT.

So tempting to possess and buy.., so beautiful in designs.

They once became a topic in DZBB radio show...

And when you buy these products, you help tribal people, rice farmers, weavers, and others more who lives-up there in the Mountains of forever...

That they would continue to survive, preserve their culture and not go EXTINCT.

Because

deep within our hearts

lies the LEGACY of our ancestors

to help them move-on father

to

FOREVER.

"Each Kalinga handwoven face mask design tells a story, a heritage, long hours of labor, our experiences about the generous and hospitable Kalinga people, their strong respect for culture and humanity and nature. The Kalinga handwoven face masks are not just durable but they will also help in saving the oceans.

The symbols of their textiles tell us stories of their ancestors and their everyday life. From farming, harvest, home life, bravery, royalty, rivers, flowers, stars, animals and mountain symbols, all of them pay homage to their environment, culture and ancestors. The color red symbolizes bravery while black represents the earth. Mountain symbols are embroidered in yellow that symbolizes wealth and fertility. Their weaves take time and attention. Each weave and design reminds us of the invested time, effort and reflection".

LANCE RAYMUNDO's SPECIAL MOTHER'S DAY MESSAGE TO HIS MOM NINA ZALDUA RAYMUNDO

MRS. NINA ZALDUA RAYMUNDO, mom of singers Rannie & Lance Raymundo

"I love you Mom. Thank you for raising me and Kuya Rannie with so much love. Your special way of raising us has made us people armed with perfect combination of strength, kindness and spirituality... allowing us to gravefully triumph over any kind of challenges that life gives to us... including this one that we are currently facing."-- (FROM LANCE RAYMUNDO, HIS SPECIAL MOTHER'S DAY MESSAGE TO HIS MOM).*

Mrs. Nina Zaldua Raymundo is one of the best showbiz moms we've ever met in the entertainment world. And she's Lance Raymundo's mom, also the mom of Lance's elder brother Rannie.

In person, mom Nina is very warm, caring, very MOTHERLY. Never a plastic person. She's frank in her pieces of thoughts to you, but within her words, you would feel her utmost concern and gentleness.

One time, mom Nina gave advice to us and she said it very nicely without hurting our feelings. That's why we loved her all the more after that. her motherly words were so comforting to us. And from that time on, we further assured to our self, that both Lance and Rannie has got THE BEST MOM IN THE WHOLE WORLD! Very lucky kids, indeed- Lance and Rannie.

Mom Nina is also very spiritual. She's a devotee of Mother Ignacia. She's charitable, and she's very devoted to her Catholic faith.

And Rannie and Lance's passion for the entertainment scene, they both inherited it to their parents. Mom Nina used to be a Beauty Queen and a mainstay of TV dance show entitled Dance-O-Rama, way back when she was younger. Her late husband, the father of both Lance and Rannie, who passed away a couple of years back- Mr. Danilo H. Raymundo (RIP), was musically-inclined and used to be a band lead singer.

THIS IS OUR SPECIAL MOTHER'S DAY TRIBUTE TO MRS. NINA ZALDUA RAYMUNDO. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO YOU, MOM NINA. MAY ALL SHOWBIZ MOMS BE LIKE YOU!!!!

DON'T EVER, EVER CHANGE, MOM NINA. GOD BLESS YOU.
