huseng batute: the poet of yesteryears

lance raymundo: modern-day poet and romanticist, portrays huseng batute in a play

"I still have one more week to memorize", sabi ni Lance Raymundo sa isang blogger over lunch at Teresita's restaurant in Tomas Morato ilang mga araw na ang nakakaraan. But thanks to direk Lou Veloso, he's giving us ample time to memorize all the lines, para sa final dress rehearsals namin, everything's okey na. We still have time."

"I learned that Huseng Batute was a famous Hari ng Balgtasan nu'ng kapanahunan niya", dagdag na sabi pa ni Lance. "His real name is Jose Corazon de Jesus. Kaya it's one big responsibility for one actor like me to be precise and truthful in my portrayal of one beloved literary icon. It's such a great task on my part.

"Kailangang maging credible ako at factual dahi this is one play performance and show na hindi dapat na magpa-cute lang", dugtong niya.

Naabutan siya ng ilang mga famous literary figures that we still have now. So, on my part, I have to do my duty well and good.

"I guess, Huseng Batute was older than Atang dela Rama at that time, kaya patatandain nila ako at kukulayan ng mga puti ang buhok ko", kuwento pang muli ni Lance. "And yes, I will sing one song and recite some poems of Huseng Batute. I am inviting everyone to watch our play.

But anyway, it's never too late to give tribute via one play na one-act lang- dahil tunay namang kaparte na ng kulturang Pinoy at Literatura si Huseng Batute.

Going back to Lance, he finally revealed to one blogger the real identity of the girl na madalas niyang i-date for coffee.

But as a gentleman, I can not say anything yet. She's one very nice girl. And I like her a lot."

I am so happy to tell everyone na we're now being seen in other countries dahil sa FB Live namin at Youtube."

Anyway, back to that episode of that May 12 noon time, talagang lahat ng 4-S Pamilya na nagsipag-awitan ay pawang mga walang tulak-kabigin. Kay gagaling lahat. Lalo na si Reymond Agbada na umawit ng dalawang awitin that day, isa na rito 'yung awiting 'Love Comes from The Most Unexpected Places'.

MARYO J. LIVES

the handsomest portrait of MARYO J. (r.i.p.)

maryo j. with blogger robert and male friends at chocolate hills in bohol province

a friendship that lasts forever

Na para bang I really felt na I BELONGED to someone.

Panaka-nakang napapadilat lang ako in my almost half-asleep and half-awake state of dreams and wakefulness.

I did not bother to stand-up na, thinking that it was your moment with the Congressman bago ka tuluyang maging abo sa mundong ito kinabukasan nu'n at umakyat sa langit.

Everything there was so peaceful, everything was so everlasting. Ibang-iba 'yung naramdaman ko, direk. Iba..... Iba talaga.

"MARYO J. LIVES" IN THE HEARTS OF EVERYONE WHO CARED FOR AND LOVED HIM TOO MUCH.

BECAUSE NOTHING EVER GOES UNTIL IT TEACHES US WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW.

THE BOTE CLAN/FAMILY AT BETHANY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

MRS. MAYVELYN BOTE AND HUSBAND FERDINAND BOTE

MR. DAVE MACARIOLA AND THE WOMAN IN MAYOR BOTE'S AUDITING AND TREASURY STAFF, WITH BLOGGER ROBERT SILVERIO

BLOGGER ROBERT WITH VICE MAYOR MELVIN PASCUAL

AdBLOGGER ROBERT WITH THE HANDSOME SON OF THE LADY SPEAKER THAT DAY- JESVIR FAJARDO.

carlo's poster for the film "goyo: ang batang heneral"

He's basically the typical MR. NICE GUY. But more than that, his inclination to the world of Performing Arts was truly wonderful. He's one of the few Filipino actors we have now who abled to penetrate the New York Art Scene, because that's where he stays right now. Mingling with fellow New Yorkers and Artists there, participating in many artistic endeavors there, too.

He's Mr. Carlo Cruz, the chosen guy who portrayed Gen. Pio del Pilar, a relative of Goyo (Gen. Gregorio del Pilar) in the much-anticipated film GOYO: ANG BATANG HENERAL.

"I am so busy here right now in the U.S., but I am sure to come back home soon for the promotions of my film Goyo", Carlo told his blogger-friend over FB chatbox. "I have a good role there that's really historical. For me, it's such an important film and I should not miss the experience once it's shown there in the Philippines.

"Shooting the film was very rewarding for me", Carlo further stressed. "We shot in many different locations. I got to wear old costumes of the Military Officers in Philippine History. I fired old rifles, did some action scenes and acted it out with other fellow actors of high caliber. Plus, being directed by no less than Jerrold Tarog was awesome. I cherished every moment of it."

Carlo's greatest buddy back home is no less than actor-singer Lance Raymundo. And they do miss each other a lot now.

"He taught me a lot how to handle the pressures of Philippine Showbiz", Carlo continued over the PM messages on FB. "He guided me, too, somehow. He gave me tips and proper advice. Until I got a talent manager who handled my acting career, Lance went on to fully support my dreams on becoming an actor just like him.

"We're not just best buddies, we were gym mates, too", he continued on. "We went into every kind of sports and many activities. Everytime I go back home, we see each other and have coffee and some drinks. Our friendship had withstood the tests of time itself."

Carlo promised to attend all the promotional events in line with the film GOYO: ANG BATANG HENERAL. Like the film screenings, the red-carpet Premiere Night, TV promo guest appearances, and other promotional events in line with the film.

But will Carlo stay long this time to revive his film career in his own country? What about doing another film here?

"Let's just wait and see", Carlo revealed at the end. "If offers will come along the way, why not? But I also have other prior commitments here in New York. It's such a hectic schedule for me. But I am sure I can fix them. How I would love to do another film in my own country. That's where my heart is."

All the best for you. Mr. Carlo Cruz.
