richard: another mystifying military-character in the film "citizen jake" |
"I feel elated and proud to be a part of one of the most important film in recent years and working with a Master film director is really something for me", actor Richard Quan started saying over a cup of coffee with a blogger. "I mean to say, how I got the impression of this great cinematic film director is more than higher from the experience I got from working with him for the first time.
"It's because I experienced working with him hands-on", Richard continued on saying. "And it's more embracing, more fulfilling- rather than just the impression you got watching his past films. It's the way he handled you and not the body of works that he had achieved. I repeat again, it's the experience of working with him."
And Richard considered himself one of the few lucky fellows to be personally picked-upon by director MIKE DE LEON to be among the cast of the film. And it's the film CITIZEN JAKE, the comeback movie of the "younger" DE LEON of Philippine Cinema.
"In one of his Facebook posts, he even praised me, and oh God, it really flattered me because it really came from him", Richard added saying. "I already heard a lot of stories about him. That he's moody sometimes, hard to approach and all. In one of our shooting days, he even let go some of his staff all of a sudden out of the blue. But you see, it did not matter to me. Because he's an artist. And he's one person I really admire.
"I'm happy for direk Mike this time, and I am glad to say that we have mutual respect and admiration to each other as co-artists in Philippine Cinema", he added. "On the contrary, I found out that direk Mike is easy to work with, a very brilliant individual and very broad-minded. There was no hassle between us along the way."
In the movie CITIZEN JAKE, Richard is portraying the character named Enchong, a military bodyguard with a separate agenda. The role was quite hard to portray, but Richard studied his scenes very carefully.
"And one good thing was, direk Mike gave us the freehand to experiment on our respective roles in the film", Richard elaborated furthermore to his friend-blogger as he sipped his Starbucks coffee. "Some of the attacks on our acting there- I mean to say, sariling amin 'yun! Kaya ang sarap! We abled to explore more and gave more meaning to our characters. That's the way direk Mike handled us in this film."
After a brief stint in last year's top-rating TV teleserye Wildflower, channel 2 (ABS-CBN) people got Richard again this time to act on their new action TV teleserye entitled Bagani, which stars Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano. Richard also finished shooting two films- namely, Spider's Man, a film directed by Ruben Ma. Soriquez and Kapayapaan Sa Gitna Ng Digmaan- a separate film produced by Iglesia Ni Kristo and he played the role of a Japanese soldier there.
"This 2018, hopefully, I would simply like to sustain my being bankable as an actor", Richard said in the end. "It's an open-field competition and I'm glad, people get to notice me and hire me to portray these various but challenging roles on films and television. Surely, I love being an actor and I work hard for it."
Very well said, Richard.
