Kundi lamang dahil may handler pa noon si Star Orjaliza, isa sa pinakamagaling na character actresses ngayon, tiyak na naging isa siya sa mga naging talents ng yumaong si direk Maryo J. delos Reyes (R.I.P.) sa nagsara na nitong Production 56 talent agency. Naaalala pa ni Star, ilang beses siyang kinausap ng yumaong direktor para kunin na isa sa mga talents niya.

"Payag sana ako nuon, pero dahil may handler pa ako at that time, ayaw ni direk Maryo na may masagasaan siya", kuwento ni Star sa isang blogger. "Malaki kasi ang respeto ni direk Maryo sa mga kasamahan niya sa industriya. Ayaw niya ng may natatapakan. Kaya duon ako mas lalong humanga sa napakagandang quality na iyon ni direk Maryo.

"Nguni't ganunpaman, kinuha pa rin ako ni direk Maryo J. nuon na maging mainstay niya sa teleseryeng Munting Heredera", dugtong ni Star. "Bale kaibigan ako ni Roderick Paulate sa teleseryeng iyon many years back. Duon ako nahasa ng husto sa pagganap."

Isa si direk Maryo J. sa mga naging paboritong direktor ni Star, bukod pa kina Brillante Mendoza, Jerrold Tarog at Sigrid Andrea Bernardo. Magaan daw kasi ka-trabaho ang yumaong direktor.

"He was straight-to-the-point, kung ano'ng sinabi niya, deretso talaga at wala na siyang paligoy-ligoy pa in instructing you what to do", pahayag ni Star. "Ang gusto ni direk Maryo, natural ka. Ayaw niya ng 'by the book' ang ginagawa mo, gusto niya, natural lang ang flow. At hindi ko malilimutan 'yung maraming crying scenes na ibinigay niya sa akin sa mga teleseryeng pinagsamahan namin as actor-director."

Kaya naman isa talaga si Star sa mga nanghihinayang pa rin ngayon at sobrang nalulungkot pa rin sa pagkawala ni direk Maryo J. sa mundo. Napaiyak daw siya nu'ng malaman niyang wala na ang beteranong direktor na naganap more than a couple of months back.

"Isang tahimik na pag-iyak lamang", sabi ni Star. "Tahimik pero tagos sa puso. Mahal na mahal ko kasi si direk Maryo J."

Si Star ay madalas mong mapapanood sa mga teleseryes doing character roles. Madalas siyang mag-guest sa mga TV teleseryes na iyon dahil magaling siya sa pag-arte. Hindi rin nauubusan si Star ng mga TV commercials, endorsements and billboards. Madalas din siyang gawing nanay sa mga TV and print ads product endorsements na iyon.

Suki rin si Star sa mga indie films. In fact, mas kilala siya sa mundong ito. Pero pinaka-memorable talaga 'yung pagganap niya bilang isang lesbyana sa indie film na Bliss, which was shown last year at mula sa direksyon ni Jerrold Tarog.

"Kapag wala akong ginagawang mga proyekto, that's the time I spend my time with my family", pagtatapos na wika ni Star. "I have a daughter. I am a single mom. And I work hard. Sa anak ko at sa pamilya ko hinuhugot ang lakas ko sa mga pakikibaka ko sa buhay."

At tinitiyak namin, malayo pa ang mararating ni Star sa daigdig ng pelikula at telebisyon.

Marami ang nag-react nang makita ng ilang Facebook stalkers ni Lance ang mga larawang kuha na may ka-date si Lance na isang napakagandang binibini. In due respect sa privacy ng dalaga, we will not mention na lang her name. Pero 'yun nga, marami ang nag-aakala at nagtatanong: Ito na nga ba ang bagong girlfriend ng actor-singer?

"Ha-ha, it was just a friendly date, Robert! Nakakahiya naman sa kanya", mariing sagot ni Lance. "Actually, we just bumped to each other lang and we simply had some coffee and light snacks. She's a very nice lady and sana, huwag agad bigyan ng malisya ng mga tao ang coffee time namin together."

Kung ganu'n man, wala bang plano na magkaroon na si Lance ng isang magandang girlfriend this year? It's been a few years since nu'ng mag-split-up sila ni Hannah delos Reyes, ang huling babae sa puso ni Lance.

"'Yung mga ganyang bagay ay kusang dumarating lang, hindi pinaplano", muling sabi ni Lance. "Pero this is what I can say, mas puwede akong magkaroon ng girlfriend this year, compared last year. Kasi, medyo nasa mood ako nowadayas to pursue a girl, maski busy pa rin ako sa mga showbiz commitments ko. I can say, I guess nga, na I need a little more inspiration this time."

Naghahanda na ngayon si Lance para sa isang natatanging dula o stage play na kung saan ay muling makikita ang kanyang galing bilang isang aktor sa entablado. Marami kasi ang pumuri sa kanya sa Senakulong tinanghal last Holy Week- ang Martir Sa Golgota, kaya parang ang sarap sundan na makita muli si Lance sa entablado.

"It is going to be directed again by Lou Veloso, who's also my director duon sa Senakulo ko", pagri-reveal ni Lance. "Hindi ko pa mai-reveal 'yung character na gagampanan ko sa play. Medyo sexy ang approach at may love interest ako na tipong older woman. And yeah, I will have sexy scenes sa play na iyon. Itatanghal iyon sa bagong-gawang Podium sa may Plaza Hugo, sa Sta. Ana. And this play is under Tanghalang Sta. Ana."

Ongoing na ang rehearsals ni Lance para sa play na iyon. But aside from that, naisisingit din ni Lance ang iba pa niyang mga gawain. Just recently, nagkaroon din siya ng courtesy call and fitting para sa Chancellor 9000 men's wear.

"Kung magkaroon man ako ng girlfriend this year, ikaw Robert ang unang makakaalam", pagtatapos na wika ni Lance. "Hindi naman ako nagmamadali to have a new girlfriend. gaya nga ng nasabi ko kanina, kusang darating 'yun."

Si Mama Dave din ang pianist sa mga gatherings every Sunday ng Gethsemane United Methodist Church, na kung saan ay kabilang din dito ang buong Bote family, sa pangunguna ni Mayor Bote.

"Ang naging buhay ko talaga ay naging madrama at masalimuot, pero ngayon ay tahimik na ako at masaya", pagwawakas ng 'LIKAS NA TAGA-PAPAYA' na si Mama Dave. "For many years in the past, nagkaroon pa ako ng Vow of Poverty. Kumbaga, choice ko 'yun. Matagal bago ko nakalimutan 'yung taong pinakamamahal ko na nagpakamatay. Kaya kung maisapelikula man ang istorya ng buhay ko, bale alay ko na iyon sa mga baklang tulad ko na nagmahal ng todo-todo pero naging survivor pa rin sa buhay."

We feel we must publish this Requiem for the late director Maryo J. delos Reyes even though he has died over a couple of months back. It's never too late. As the late director continues to inspire so many of those he had loved and shared his life upon, his legacy to everyone will continue to shine.... The writer of this Requiem, Mr. Frank Rivera is among those dear to the heart of the late director. As they both contributed so many things for the glory of the Arts- the Theater and Philippine Cinema. And beacause, the late Maryo J. delos Reyes was a product of the THEATER WORLD, and the Cinema simply followed on.--- RMS.)*

AS WRITTEN BY MR. FRANK RIVERA

In the early 70s, Czech Director-Playwright LADISLAV SMOCEK conducted a Playwriting Workshop in PETA attended by a group of budding young theater artists like me, MARYO DELOS REYES, TONY PEREZ, PAUL DUMOL, NONON PADILLA, GARDY LABAD, REX CATUBIG, EFRAIM BEJAR, MARS CAVESTANY and BUTCH DALISAY who wrote a dramatic piece about a very young boy from the squatters. The short play was entitled "BETHLEHEM". I talked about it to BALINTATAW Literary Manager BERT FLORENTINO who decided to do it for television. MARYO DELOS REYES and I did BUTCH DALISAY's "BETHLEHEM" on TV for the much awarded BALINTATAW Directed by LUPITA CONCIO (Kashiwahara now) Produced by CECILE GUIDOTE (Alvarez now) and the Phil. Educational Theater Association (PETA) Hosted by ROBERT AREVALO. The teleplay starred the sensational child actor then RODERICK PAULATE. That episode was a big hit with loads of fan mails received by the program. PETA decided to put up a stage version of BETHLEHEM for the Twilight Theater Series at the Raha Sulayman Theater in Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Manila. However, MARYO was unable to direct it but LORLI VILLANUEVA did (her first directorial piece) of course with RODERICK and ANGIE FERRO and I remember we were coaxing promenaders at the parks to come and watch our show, after which they left the theater teary-eyed touched by RODERICK and ANGIE's acting and BUTCH DALISAY's dramatic play.

About this time, MARYO pondered on doing a play production for his thesis in UP. He thought of doing the play with his then favorite actor RODERICK PAULATE from the success of "BETHLEHEM". He asked CECILE GUIDOTE to pull strings with the Population Commission (PopCom) that enabled him to receive a grant for his thesis project. It was the play, " 'TAY, KAIN NA TAYO" which he asked budding playwrights TOM ADRALES and BEY VITO to write starring RODERICK PAULATE, ANGIE FERRO & JOEY GALVEZ with JOE GRUTA who he also directed in an earlier PETA Play "TATLONG MANYIKA" with me and RAFFY GUERRERO at the Dungeon.
" 'TAY, KAIN NA TAYO" had a long run at Fort Santiago and even toured the Bicol Region. Its success delighted PopCom and his UP Professors. He left for Switzerland afterwards.
Upon his return, he directed his first film "HIGH SCHOOL CIRCA '65" which earned RODERICK PAULATE an acting award for his first comic role. He directed RODERICK again for his first contravida role in "ALKITRANG DUGO" adapted from the famous novel "LORD OF THE FLIES". This project was offered to him by LUPITA CONCIO who introduced MARYO to JAKE TORDESILLAS, who became his long-time companion and who caused MARYO's greatest pain when he passed away in June, last year.
"ALKITRANG DUGO" also introduced MARYO to SUPERSTAR NORA AUNOR who starred in their box-office films together "ANNIE BATUNGBAKAL", "BONGGA KA, 'DAY", "ROCK 'N ROLL"...

'Tis difficult to accept that his auspicious beginning in the industry has come to an end. But it's the natural flow of life.

ACTORS AT THE ARTIST PLAYGROUND!

"Robert, Hola!", Roeder Camanag, the Artistic Director of the Artist Playground, said to a blogger. "We have ongoing Acting Workshops every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We call it Actor's Energy Principle Musical Theater. Then, every Saturdays and Sundays, it's our Weekends at the Playground. This is our weekend acting classes called Actor's Energy Principle Basics, which is another approach to acting."

Mr. Camanag further stressed the unique technique that they apply on the said Acting Workshops.

"Yes, Robert", Roeder Camanag further continued saying to his blogger-friend. "My brother Jeffrey and I created an acting system or platform based on our own research. And we both have been working on this for years now.

"The technique is heavily anchored on breathing", he said. "It is not an acting style. It is a logical and natural principle that allows the actor to the discovery and the full use of the capacity of his tools- which is the Body, the Mind and the Voice."

Wonderful, truly wonderful.

While other Theater groups copy their acting-teaching techniques to other Masters of Acting Schools like Lee Strassberg, Eric Morris and the likes, people behind the ARTIST PLAYGROUND do formulate their own. And that's something to reckon with.
