He was sitting there, feeling conscious but unaware that someone was staring at him already for a long time. He was notched alongside with the other cast of the film Bagyong Bheverlyn, a Cinema One Originals 2018 film entry, at the very front make-shift stage, as the media people gathered in front of them and the cameras clicked.
There were many of them at the stage front- other cast members of other film entries were also lined-up and seated. And as they stood one by one and introduced themselves, a young theater actor, now venturing into the movie world- by the name of Jude Matthew Sevilla, stood tall and proud. Young and innocent. Magnifying and strong.
"Ako po si Jude Matthew Sevilla", as he spoke and smiled to the media people. "Kasama po ako sa film na Bagyong Bheverlyn. Naisingit lang po ako ni direk Charliebebs na pumunta rito sa presscon. Kasi, hindi naman malaki ang role ko sa film. Barkada lang po ako du'n ng bida."
With all his humility and unassuming ways, the media people seemed to love him more. He could be fresh and raw, but his experiences on the legitimate theater scene was already remarkable. And now, this young man's out to conquer the movie world. Did he find it hard to adjust?
"I saw the difference at once, Sir Robert", Jude answered back as he got to face the blogger-person who's been staring at him at the front stage almost an hour ago, without him knowing it. "In theater, the stage is wide. And you have to exaggerate the acting and widely reach for everyone. Ang laki, ang wide talaga. That's why, acting-wise, you've got to expand much.
"While acting in the movies, I can say by now, it's more genuine, and it's more focused", Jude continued on. "You don't have to expand. You have to minimize."
And Jude found it more challenging. Bagyong Bheverlyn turned-out to be his third film already, and he wanted to continue on.
"It was a wholesome and a happy experience for me, acting in the movies, I mean", Jude added-up saying. "And by this time, I want to continue it. I want more.
"With the support that I got from my co-stars in the film Bagyong Bheverlyn- no less than Ms. Ruffa Mae Quinto and EA de Guzman, my movie acting experiences became more pleasant talaga", he quipped. "How I wish to do more films soon."
His very frist film was done in the year 2016, and it was entitled Ligaw, with actress Melissa Ricks on the lead part there, and Jude Matthew played a supporting role. Two years after, he did two films. It's Bagyong Bheverlyn and Class of 2018 (out to be shown this coming month of November), and both directed by Charliebebs Gohetia.
"I got tips and advice from my younger bro JV Sevilla who's ahead of me in the acting field", Jude said again. "But basically, once you're into this kind of thing, you are on your own already. You've got to be strong. Not merely relying on anyone else."
Maybe, he got that kind of discipline and attitude on Theater, wherein people came-in more professionally and straight-forward. With years of experience on the Theater scene and has appeared in many legitimate theater productions, Jude Matthew is indeed soaring higher.
Like a young, handsome Eagle that lands on earth.
