When Lance promised to us that we'll be the first one to interview him about his opinions on the Xander Ford bashing online, he did so. Even when others were already wanting to grant the first interview on him- Lance remained loyal to his blogger-friend. And it did touch the blogger's heart.
Over a heavy lunch of embotidos, fried daing na bangus, kare-kare and pancit malabon at Teresita's restaurant in Tomas Morato Avenue, Lance answered all the intriguing questions about him and Xander Ford. We meant, the parallelism that happened between him and the most-talked-about showbiz personality now in Facebook, Twitter and Instagram,- Xander.
For those who didn't know yet, Lance had a facial accident wherein a weight barbell fell on his handsome face and it was totally devastated. Miraculously, Lance survived the accident and got a "new face" through the help of his face surgeon. It happened more than a couple of years ago. Now, in Xander Ford's case, it was different. Xander never met an accident. He simply wanted a "new face" to finally prove to his bashers that he could also be as handsome as the popular actors we have now. And Xander made it. But the bashing never stopped.
That's why our first question with Lance went like this:
What can you say about the Xander Ford viral controversy wherein ordinary netizens bash Xander?
"With our new generation of high-technology and social networking, kahit saan ka, you are very vulnerable to social media bashing", came Lance's first answer. "And the thing is, everyone has to go through with it. No one is an excuse. And with Xander's case, he became an instant online sensation.
"If you are a public figure and celebrity, people expect more from you", Lance continued on. "You are under their microscopic scrutiny and sensitivity. And Xander is a victim of cyber-bullying. Pero paano kung weak pala 'yung tao? In some cases, it could lead to suicide. Buti na lang, Xander is strong and he could handle it."
Question Number Two: Since you've experienced a rather different experience compared that to Xander, but you also underwent a facial reconstruction, do you really feel that people like you must be comforted, rather than hated?
"Yes", came Lance's quick reply to the second question.
Question Number Three: What advice can you give to Xander in coping-up with the bashers?
"Words has no power over you, just go on and live your best", Lance answered again. "Ako nga mismo, I got bashers din at that time my face was reconstructed. But it did not affect me much. So I will just tell Xander to enjoy his new look! He's pogi now and he's happy."
Question Number Four: Was the facial transformation from the old you to the new you quite traumatic? How did you prepare yourself for that- back at that time you met the facial accident?
"Pagkatapos akong mabagasakan ng barbell, that was the transformation for me", Lance answered back again. "Hindi ko alam kung makakakita pa ako, kung maibabalik pa sa dati ang mukha ko, and all that. For six days, I was so confused. But when I got the facial surgery, kahit iba na ang mukha ko, I realized that I am still me. Bonus na lang siguro 'yung I got a better face now. And many people says na I look a lot younger now."
Question Number Five: Did the adoration and the comfort given to you by people could spoil you or anyone for that matter, after the facial transformation?
"On the contrary, the accident humbled me down", came Lance's quick reply. "The praises only taught me to become a better person and it never spoiled me. Nasa iyo na rin 'yun, eh. Praises may hinder you or make you egoistic. But if you know to be humble always, it will never ruin you."
Question Number Six: Do you really believe that people need facial transformations when needed?
"Yeah, people need to have facial transformations- only if that's what they really need", came Lance's final answer. "It's almost the same as buying an expensive perfume. If you can afford it, by all means, then buy it."
