Ang bawat tao ay may kanya-kanyang pangarap. Mga pangarap na kung minsan ay natutupad, at kung minsan ay hindi rin. Mga pangarap na siyang nagbububuklod-buklod sa bawat nilalang upang mabuhay at magpunyagi. Mga pangarap na kahit isang saglit lang, maramdaman mo sana.

Isang gabi, ang mga pangarap na iyon ay natupad. Isang gabi, sa piling ng mga fans ni Gerald Santos.

Oo, iyon ang gabi na kung saan ang mga fans na ito ay ipinakita ng lubos-lubos ang kani-kanilang pagmamahal para sa kanilang idolo. Ikinuwento nila at inilahad sa gitna ng entablado ang matinding pagmamahal na iyon. At ang matapat nilang pagsubaybay sa singer-actor na naging inspirasyon nila sa kanilang buhay. At higit sa lahat, ipinakita nila sa madla na lahat sila'y nangarap ring maging isang singer. Kaya naman isa-isa rin silang nag-awitan ng solo.

Damang-dama mo. Tumatagos. Ang iba sa kanila ay nakakaawit namang talaga, ang iba, pawang mga frustrated singers lamang na kailangan munang bumalik sa voice lessons- pero ganunpaman, ang ipinamalas nilang kakayahan ay kahanga-hanga. Ginawa nila ito para sa kanilang idolo.

Yun ang gabi ng KONSIYERTO nila, ng konsiyerto ng mga fans ni Gerald Santos- ang Team Gerald. Idinaos nila ang konsiyertong ito para makatulong sa mga kapus palad. At para na rin maipamalas nila na may kakayahan din sila sa pagkanta. Ang pamagat ng konsiyerto: IT'S OUR TURN: THE DREAM TEAM GERALD SANTOS CONCERT.

Idinaos ang konsiyerto nila sa isang napakagandang venue- sa PBA Cafe ng Metrowalk, Ortigas Avenue. Naganap nuong October 27 sa ganap na alas-nuwebe ng gabi. And take note, napuno nila ang venue! Sosyal talaga ang mga fans na ito ni Gerald. Mga hindi basta-basta...

Si kuya Cocoy Ramilo, ang manager ni Gerald, ang siyang naging host ng mini- program/concert. Masayang-masaya siya nuong gabing iyon dahil very cooperative and supportive ang mga fans. At natuwa siya ng husto nu'ng isa-isa nang nagkantahan ang mga ito. He's so proud of them.

Ang pinaka-nakakaiyak na parte ng concert ay nuong gawaran ang mga loyal fans ni Gerald ng Certificate of Recognition because of their unending love for Gerald. Ang tatlong fans na ito rin ang pinakamalapit sa puso ng isang blogger. Sila ay sina Maritess Soguilon (who's also the official secretary of Gerald), Nanay Bebot Santiago (the President of Team Gerald) at si Lhynne Imperial (ang fans ni Gerald na forever nang nagpo-post sa Youtube.Com ng mga events ni Gerald at laging kumukuha ng pictures).

Sa bandang huli, iisang tao lang ang pinakahihintay ng lahat. Ang taong naging sanhi para magkaisa sila, magmahalan, magtulungan, at, MABUHAY NG MAY PANGARAP. Dahil ang taong ito ang kanilang inspirasyon.

Hahamunin ng Cinema One Originals ang imahinasyon at pananaw ng mga manonood sa mga maglalaban laban na mga pelikula para sa naturang film festival ngayong taon.

Gamit ang bago nitong tagline na “Anong Tingin Mo,” ang Cinema One Originals ay muling magtatampok ng iba’t ibang pelikula sa narrative category na sasamahan pa ng tatlong dokumentaryo matapos itong magbigay rin ng grants sa unang pagkakataon sa tatlong documentary film makers.

Kabilang sa tatlong featured documenataries sa film fest ang “Forbidden Memory” ni Ted Mangansakan na kakapanayam ng survivors sa isang mass murder na naganap noong Setyembre 1974; ang “Piding” nina Paolo Picones at Gym Lumbera na babalikan ang kasaysayan ng ornithologist na si Oliver Carlos; at “People Power Bombshell” ni John Torres na bubusisi naman sa isang nahanap na pelikula ni Celso Ad Castillo.

Samantala, tatlo naman sa nabigyan ng grants sa narrative category ay dati ng sumali sa nakaraang Cinema One Originals. Sila ay sina Keith Deligero na idinirehe ngayong taon ang kwento ni “Lily,” isang babaeng pinaghihinalaang kalahating halimaw; si Malay Javier na ipapamalas ang isang quirky love story sa “Every Room is A Planet,” at si Borgy Torres na mapanghamon naman sa basketball crime film niyang “Tisay.”

Apat na baguhang filmmakers din ang magpapakitang gilas kabilang sina Petersen Vargas sa kanyang dark high school comedy na “2 Cool 2Be 4gotten,” si Samantha Lee sa kanyang millennial love story na “Baka Bukas,” si Jose Abdel Langit sa kanyang ethnographic mystery na “Malinak Ya Labi,” at Jules Katanyag sa ganyang geriatric action film na “Si Magdalola at Ang Mga Gago.”

Tampok rin sa Cineme One Originals ngayong taon ang ilan sa acclaimed foreign films tulad ng “The Salesman,” “Slack Bay,” “It’s Only The End of the World,” “Embrace of the Serpent,” “Swiss Army Man,” “I, Daniel Blake,” “Fuocuoammare,” “De Palma” “Close Encounters with Vilmos Szigmond,” “The Wailing,” “Goodnight Mommy,” “The Witch” at “Creepy” at restored classic Filipino films na “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos” ni Mario O’Hara, “Nagalit Ang Buwan Sa Haba Ng Gabi” ni Danny Zialcita, “Cain At Abel” ni Lino Brocka, and “Pagdating sa Dulo” ni Ishmael Bernal.

Mayroon ding special screenings ang Golden Lion award winning film ni Lav Diaz na “Ang Babaeng Humayo” at found footage horror film ni Sherad Sanchez na “Salvage.”

Ang Cinema One Originals ay mapapanood mula November 14 hanggang 22, 2016. Gaganapin ang screenings sa Trinoma, Glorietta, Gateway, Greenhills at Cinematheque.

Ang aktres na si Ms. Rita Avila ay isa sa mga hinahangaan din naming children's book authors. She had written more than five children books at talaga namang gustong-gusto namin ang mga mensaheng isinasaad ng bawat librong sinusulat niya. No wonder, itong pinakabagong libro niyang pinamagatang The Invisible Wings ay ginawa na ngayong isang musical play. Nakakasabik na mapanood talaga.

Si Peter Flores Serrano, isang batikang theater actor ang nag-produce ng dulang ito, under his State of Stage Entertainment Productions, in collaboration with Harlene Bautista's Heaven's Best Entertainment Live Productions.

We guess, it's high time that heavenly plays like this one, na ang target audience ay mga musmos na bata- lalo na iyong mga batang hindi pa nagsisipag-aral- ay makapanood ng mga musical plays na magpapakita ng kabutihang dinudulot ng mga ANGHEL.

Nakakataba naman ng puso ang suportang ibinibigay ng singer-actor na si Gerald Santos para sa Gantimpala Theater Foundation. Nu'ng October 5 ay dumalo na siya sa unang benefit show, at ngayon naman, hayan at dadalo na naman siya ulit sa ikalawang benefit show bukas, October 12 sa The Library na entitled "Laguna: Full Force" na para ulit sa benefit ng Gantimpala Theater Foundation.

Iyong October 5 kasi, parang reunion at gathering 'yun ng lahat ng mga naging Gantimpala artists, at itong ikalawang show naman bukas ay pawang mga artists sa Laguna ang magsisipagtanghal, mga artists na na-workshop na ni Gean Alain de Leon, isang Gantimpala staffer at assistant director ni Frannie Zamora.
At hindi lang basta dadalo si Gerald sa nasabing show, isa rin siya sa mga very special guests, kasama sina China Cojuangco, RJ Jimenez, CJ Mangahis, Renzo Almario, Norman Penaflorinda, Heidi Arima at Ruel Oda.

RICHARD QUAN: MASKI SAAN, KAHIT KAILAN...

Ang isang tunay na aktor ay naglalakbay, nagpupunta sa mga lugar na nais niyang makamtan, nagmamadaling makuha ang mga panlasang nais niyang matikman.

Ang isang tunay na aktor ay maihahambing rin sa isang alak na matagal nang nailaklak sa bodega ng makalumang panahon, sumasarap pa ng husto sa pagdaloy ng mga araw at ng mga taon...

Pero higit sa lahat ng ito, ang aktor ay umiibig sa tuwina, inaakap ng mahigpit ang Sining ng pelikula, tumititig ang mga matang malamlam sa kaluluwa ng isang kapwa-taong nagbabadyang matuklasan siya...

Dahil, ang aktor ay isang AKTOR. At hindi na dapat pang harangan pa ng sibat ang mga susunod na maipapamalas niya.

Ang aktor na iyon ay si Richard Quan, at wala nang iba.

Sa isang "intimate coffee interview" sa aktor na si Richard, mas lalong lumalim ang pagkakakilala namin sa kanya. Dahil sa pagtakbo ng mga oras at araw, mas lalo niyang napatunayan ang kaganapan ng kanyang pagiging isang tunay na aktor. Pero nanatili siyang "low key", mapagkumbaba, tahimik...

Unang tanong: Richard, isa ka sa maituturing na pinaka-low key na aktor sa crop of serious actors that we have now in showbiz. Hindi mo ba napi-feel na napaka-under rated mo as an actor?

"It's my choice", mabilis na naging tugon ni Richard. "And I have no regrets. Mas ginusto ko ang ganito na tahimik lang, walang masyadong intriga at hindi nakakalkal ang pribadong buhay ko. Ang masasabi ko lang siguro, mas may narating ako sa pagiging isang aktor. At mas masaya ako kung nasaan man ako ngayon. At mas naa-appreciate ko rin ang mga magagandang bagay na dumarating sa career ko."

Ikalawang tanong: Anu-ano ba ang mga most challenging movies na nagawa mo na? Yung mga naging pinaka-paborito mong pelikula, Richard?

"Para sa akin, 'yung pinaka-una ko pa ring pelikula ang pinakagusto ko", muling sagot ni Richard sa ikalawang tanong. "Ang pamagat ng pelikulang iyon ay Saan Ka Man Naroroon, na mula sa direksyon ni Carlos Siguion-Reyna. Unang-unang pelikula ko iyon at ang ganda agad ng naging papel ko doon. Pati billing ko, kahanay ko sina Richard Gomez at Dawn Zulueta. Pangalawa iyong pelikulang Karinyo Brutal, kasi ang ganda rin ng naging role ko doon. Pero ngayon, may ginagawa akong pelikula, itong Kids of War. Isa itong indie film at kasalukuyan kong sinu-shoot. Ibang klase ang papel ko dito at talagang mapang-hamon."

Sa puntong ito ng coffee interview kay Richard, isinawalat niya ang mga bagong pelikulang ginagawa niya ngayon:

"May ginagawa akong film ngayon which is very close to my heart, it's about World War Two", muling pahayag ni Richard. "Ang pamagat ay Kids of War, na nabanggit ko na kanina. Ang ganda ng script ng pelikulang ito! Istorya ito ng mga teenager na kabataan at iyong epekto ng giyera sa mga buhay nila. Kung ano'ng nangyayari sa kanila habang ang mga magulang nila ay nakikipaglaban sa giyera. It's a very ambitious script and to think, indie film lang ito.

"Ang maganda pa, iba ang naging samahan naming lahat habang ginagawa ang pelikulang ito", dugtong na sabi pa ni Richard. "You can feel sa set ng pelikula namin na nagmamalasakit ang bawat isa, nagtutulungan, nagdadamayan. Bale ang producer kasi namin dito ay baguhan pa lamang. Kaya siya nag-produce ng pelikula ay para sa anak niyang sumali sa acting workshop. Ganun lang kasimple at nag-produce na siya. Kaya gusto ko suportahan ang mga producers na tulad nila."

Si Moises Lapid, na dating production designer ng beteranong direktor na si Gil Portes ang direktor ng Kids of War. Si Arman Reyes naman ang Associate Producer at si Rolly Palmes ang Line Producer. Kasama ni Richard sa pelikulang ito ang kapatid ni Coco Martin na si Ronwaldo Martin na gumaganap bilang anak niya sa pelikula.

Bukod sa Kids of War, may dalawa pang mga pelikulang tinatapos ngayon si Richard. 'Yung isa ay film entry sa darating na Cinema One Originals film fest sa November. At 'yung isa pa, isang advocacy film ukol sa mga bata.

"'Yung movie ko sa Cinema One, all-out na Panggalatok ang mga speaking lines ko doon", kuwento pa ni Richard. "Panggalatok is a Panagasinan province dialect. Kaya talagang nag-ensayo pa ako sa pananalita ng Panggalatok. Ukol ito sa mga beliefs ng mga Pangasinan people, reflecting their old traditional beliefs. Ang title ng pelikulang ito ay Malinak Ya Labi na ang ibig sabihin sa Ingles ay Silent Night.

"At 'yung advocacy film ko naman ukol sa mga bata, ang title nu'n ay Karapatan Pambata at mula ito sa direksyon ni Joven Tan", dugtong ni Richard. "Malapit ko na ring matapos ang pelikulang iyan."

Si Richard Quan, aktor pampelikula. Naglalakbay, humahayo... At lalong gumagaling at tumitibay sa pagtakbo ng panahon.

the re-staging of "bonifacio: isang sarsuwela", vince tanada's most favorite play of all...

It was an era when Filipinos were brave enough to fight for the cause of the true spirit of Nationalism...
A time and a place wherein ordinary Filipinos united for a common cause, and heroism evolved in the hearts of everyone.
And one man, in person of hero Andres Bonifacio led them. 
And the Philippine flag's true symbolism stood tall amidst them all.

In the musical play Bonifacio: Isang Sarsuwela, which was first staged by the Philippine Stagers Foundation three years ago, and now, will soon have its comeback on Bonifacio Day at the AFP theater, the spirit of being a true Filipino will come again. You will transcend time and space and regress in an era of camaraderie, heroism and braveness.

"It's my favorite play, I guess the best one that I have ever written and directed", Vince told a blogger-friend of his. "That's why this re-staging of Bonifacio: Isang Sarsuwela means so much to me. It's very special to my heart."

The blogger-friend of Vince did agree to what he said. Because he himself had watched the play more than 20 times when it was first staged in a series of performances three years ago. And he never got tired watching that hell of a MASTERPIECE.

Andres Bonifacio could have been our National Hero if not for the intrigues and the Politics. Yet, the emergence of the Super Powers in our native land over ruled the true quest of a true hero.

But then again, through Vince Tanada's musical play Bonifacio: Isang Sarsuwela, that kind of thirst will be relieved and quenched anew.

THE MOST VIOLENT DEATH SCENE OF BONIFACIO, AS PERFORMED BY VINCE TANADA ON STAGE WITH STAGER DE'ROTSEN ETOLLE WAS ONE OF THE MOST UNFORGETTABLE SCENES IN "BONIFACIO: ISANG SARSUWELA"

ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR (a review for the concert play TROY AVENUE)...

In loving someone, you sacrifice almost everything. It's because you love that person so much and you'd never care about loosing it all.

In loving someone, you tend to be brave. You would be strong enough to fight and protect the very person you love.

And you'd soon know, there would always be people out there who would help with the FIGHT. They were the people within the bounds of your very existence- your family, your friends, your co-people, your neighbors.

And in the end, you'd see. Yes, you'd see... that the strength was really deep within you. And even a demi-god would die from your pointing arrow- just for you to know that your LOVE was stronger and your HEART, more powerful.

That was the place they called TROY AVENUE. A place that somehow existed in the mythology of time and space. Where people and gods co-existed, where power and might ruled an entire city. And where beauty and love embraced anew.

Paris (so sweetly portrayed by Stager Poul Garcia) was just a simple, young man. Yet he loved a woman greater than a faith that could move mountains. He proved his great manliness and fair manners to everyone- which only greater impressed his father- King Priam (outstandingly portrayed by Stager Chin Ortega) and that was the reason why he got all the support needed from the people of Troy not to return back Helen (performed with much angst and passion by New Stager Maya Encila) to the land of Greece and under the evil arrogancy of Menelaus (acted upon with great intensity by Stager Gerald Himarino).

AND THE WAR SOON ERUPTED. It was ignited by Paris' great love on the most beautiful woman on earth- Helen.

King Agamemnon (performed on stage with great overwhelming power of conviction by Stager Jomar Tanada Bautista) became the angriest man on the planet and he commanded a thousand ships and a treachery to the land and people of Troy- in order to conquer it and get Helen back. A demi-god in person of Achilles (so wonderfully portrayed by Stager Kenneth Sadsad) participated in the conflict with his own personal agenda and egoistic whims.

In the end, the people of Troy were never conquered. Because Paris proved to everyone that even a demi-god like Achilles would die just for LOVE. And in war, all seemed to be FAIR.

YES, ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR.

You would insist, sometimes, that it's all unfair and unjust. But it was not.

A milestone of a performance was again seen in the performances of Stagers Adelle Ibarrientos-Lim, Hark Montillana and John Rey Rivas.
Hark as Hector was convincing and penerating, Adelle as the Troy woman/baby sitter made us laugh to death, and John Rey as Achilles' best friend performed with a new kind of an acting style on stage that's so eye-catching and efficient. Kudos!

But without the great direction and a well-written play script by Vince Tanada, the concert play Troy Avenue would not reach its true intent-
