TWO provocative and award-winning full length documentary films selected by acclaimed film director and screenwriter Clodualdo del Mundo will be offered in Cinemalaya 16’s Dokyu section. These are Overseas by Sung-A Yoon and Elihiya sa Paglimot (An Elegy to Forgetting) by Kristoffer Brugada.
Cinemalaya 16 opens on August 7 and runs until August 16 on the Vimeo platform.
The two films in Dokyu section, Del Mundo said, are portraits of individuals--- a group of women who are patronizingly described as today’s heroines and an old man who has lost his memory.
“Overseas, by French-South Korean filmmaker Yoon Sung-A, creates an empathetic film about Filipina women who are training for their work in foreign lands as domestic helpers,” Del Mundo said. “What is especially interesting is the way Yoon Sung-A mixes documentary with her own imaginative perspective.”
“Elihiya sa Paglimot (Elegy to Forgetting)”, on the other hand, Del Mundo said, “is a filmmaker-son’s portrait of his father who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Kristoffer Brugada, the filmmaker-son, records his father’s journey to forgetting.”
