There's something more into this film than meets the EYE. Very like the animated EYE logo/caricature of this year's Cinemalaya 16 eyeballs that looked like Pingpong balls with eye drawings. Funny as it seemed, but these very eyes, oh my, indeed captured and penetrated the hidden messages that displayed themselves like jigsaw puzzles in the short film PABASA KAN PASYON.
Another competing Short for this year's Cinemalaya 16, PABASA KAN PASYON was the most intellectual film we had watched so far in those first five short films that we had seen so far. Because all the scenes in this film were implied, not fully revealing, inept in wonder and style.
The film has got something more, yet, it was not pretending to be, but was simply maintaining the array of wonderful black and white images and setting, scenery and faces. We later-on concluded, it was a dark film, after all. Dark in content but captivating in presentation and texture.
It were not the beauty of the place and the tradition after all, yeah, it was not. Director Hubert Tibi had something more to reveal.
In an enslaving old Religion of ancient beliefs, life was not born out makeshift and struggles for a daily living.
It was born out of neglect and a sacrificial love that endangers the FAITH.
As we've got nothing more to say.
